Ascom 6.2 + 2.4.3.21

I’ve been running SGP for about a year with no issues but after installing ASCOM 6.2 and SGP 2.4.3.21, I am getting an exception report when trying to start SGP:

Charlie,

I just did a fresh install of ASCOM 6.2 and Sequence Generator 2.4.3.21. It’s working just fine. I’d recommend rebooting your computer after installing both programs and see if that fixes your issue.

I tried rebooting after installing the updates but it did not clear up the problem. So, I uninstalled both the ASCOM platform and SGP. Then rebooted. Reinstalled ASCOM 6.2. Rebooted and then installed v2.4.3.21. SGP came up without any errors but strangely, all the docking modules were opened and randomly scattered around the screen. I closed the ones I don’t use and rearranged the ones I do use. Stopped and restarted SGP and it remembered the docking modules correctly. Strange…

The original error looks as if one of the ASCOM files hasn’t been installed, the JPLEPH file. Maybe a repair install of the ASCOM platform would have fixed it.

I’ve no idea why this wasn’t installed, could there have been some application running in the background while the installation was being done that was trying to use this file?

Do you have some sort antivirus software installed? It wouldn’t be the first time when an antivirus software removes something critical and messes an installation up. I’ve noticed several threads about issues that have lead to Avast antivirus when investigated.

There would not have been any background tasks running that would have used such an obscure file AFAIK.

As far as anti-virus, I use SpyBot but if it had removed that file on the first install, I would have expected it to remove it the second time.

I do not know where JPLEPH is used by ASCOM but since it is a ephemeris file it would seem like it would be either PinPoint or PlateSolve2 – I have both installed.
