Auto centering doesn't work properly sometimes

Hi all,

Sometimes the auto centering is not functional correctly, the mount is not moving and thus the error doesn’t improved until the maximum loops. Any idea?
Version 2.6.1.114 + PlateSolve2 + EQMODV2.00

Hi Jeff,

I’m glad you have posted this question, I also came accross the same problem recently. In my case the repeated auto center “improves” every time by 1 pixel, but it fails after 5 tries, even when I retry. I see no reason for this to happen.

I had the same problem, and it might be because I am using EQMOD, and usually after a meridian flip. I go and open equipment profile and change guider to swap east/west and then the centering goes as intended.

Same problem for me last night. Not using EQMOD, and not after a flip. I had the same issue as Janos, it would seem to move by 1px each try, but fail since it couldn’t get close enough.

SGP is not throwing any errors - you can see it has issued the ASCOM commands to do the mount syncs.

I have not used EQMOD for years (I prefer Chris Rowland’s ASCOM driver) but I recall similar threads that indicated that EQMOD pointing models mess up SGP centering. Have you got an EQMOD pointing model? You might also try not using ‘sync’ in the SGP telescope tab sync method but ‘target offset’. In that way, SGP will issue a small slew to take out the pointing error. (Depending on your mount - you may have appreciable backlash too…my old NEQ6 had 15 arc seconds worth)

It is very strange that auto centering worked well in the last 2 or 3 days, though I didn’t change any configuration.
Each time the first loop is with a big error (several hundreds pixels) and in the second loop it is moved to the target as expected. If this happens again, I’ll post the error log here again.
