Not sure if it was recommended before, but seems that SGP could do an interrogation of the autofocus system and determine both backlash as well as recommended step size for autofocus, and upon using a new system (new profile) initially do an interrogation and determine and set these parameters. Maybe it has to start from a position of focus to start and know what direction the focuser moves (in /out) with some certainty.
Just noticing that I’ve had this issue (in setting up the right parameters and it took a little trial and error) and seems others are also having this issue.
