Installation problem

Hello I am new purchaser.
I installed software on my main PC (windows 7). The program starts with an unhanded exception error.
I did an uninstall and reinstall but the issue persists.
(note program is installed on “F” drive not “C” drive)
If I ignore the message the program opens, but the “checking for updated version” widow never goes away.
If I attempt to generate a mosaic (yes it is licensed), the program crashes when I click on “fetch” the object.

Hoping there is a fix for this.

The initial exception text is listed below:

Marty,
What version of SGP is this with? There was a problem with the 2.6.0.15 installer…if it’s that version please upgrade to 2.6.0.17 (or later) ASAP.

It also looks like there may be a problem with your ASCOM installation? Can you confirm that you have ASCOM 6.2 or greater installed?

Thanks,
Jared

Hi Jared, thanks for message.

The version of Sequence generator used is 2.6.0.17.
It installed fine on my Laptop. Below is the screen from main PC which has the problem…
[cid:image003.jpg@01D29693.E95DC040]

Ascom is version #6.3 - I did update this after the initial problems occurred. It does not appear to make any difference.
[cid:image006.jpg@01D29693.E95DC040]

Also Enclosed is the ASCOM diagnostic log file, if that is of any use.
I think ASCOM is on C drive of my PC as there was no option to install to another hard drive.
Sequence Generator is on F drive as I have little room left on C drive.

Thanks for help, this stumps me.

Can you create a new profile (can be empty even) save it and set it as the default profile then open SGP.

Also can you send me the logs PRIOR to doing that?

Thanks,
Jared

Should be able to do that. But just to make sure I understand what you want…

  • Fetch a log file for you – what log?

  • Open SGP, create a new user/site profile?? in SGP, then save it as default.

  • Close SGP and reopen it

  • Fetch another log of what??

Thanks Martin

The SGP log, accessible from the help menu in SGP. There will be multiple. Find the ones that correlate to the time you opened SGP.

Equipment profile. (Tools>>Equipment Profile Manager)

Same one as step 2, but it will be a different file. May be easiest purge all logs first

  1. Open SGP
  2. Go to “Help>>Open Log Folder”
  3. Close SGP
  4. Delete all files in log folder that start with sg_logfile_
  5. Open SGP
  6. Create new equipment profile and save it as default.
  7. Close SGP
  8. Open SGP.
  9. Close SGP.

That process should leave you with 2 log files in the folder that you should still have open from step 2. Send me those files.

Thanks,
Jared

Jared – 3 files:

  • Before I made any changes to equipment profile

  • The session in which I made changes to the equipment profile.

  • The log file for reopening after making changes to equipment profile.

Thanks,
Marty

sg_logfile_20170306170347_reopen after change.txt (20.3 KB)

sg_logfile_20170306165820_before changes.txt (20.3 KB)

sg_logfile_20170306165955_newprofile.txt (21.6 KB)

Something definitely seems problematic with your ASCOM install. If you open the ASCOM Profile Explorer does everything seem ok there? Do you have anything else on your system that can successfully access ASCOM?

Thanks,
Jared

Looks like ASCOM was problem!!
Enclosed is the message from profile explorer when i first looked at it.
Did not look good, so I uninstalled ASCOM and then completely reinstalled 6.3 ( did not use the repair option)

  • Profile explorer comes up good.

  • SGP now starts up with no problems!

Now i just have to figure out how to use your program.
Am hoping i can generate the imaging sequences on my main PC & then, move them to my laptop for actual field execution.

Thanks for the help!
Martin

Yes, you can do that by just saving and moving the sequence between them. To really be successful you’ll need the same hardware drivers on both machines and to share the equipment profiles between them as well.

Thanks,
Jared
