Newie problem with autoguiding setteling

I am trying my first sequence but after one image it stops and says:

Autoguider is setteling

How can I disable this and make it continue?

Thanks so much!!

I am going to guess that you have the ā€˜settle atā€™ setting to narrow.

In the control panel (or equipment profile) under the ā€œAuto Guideā€ tab you will see a section that says ā€œSetteling Optionsā€ Settle at <X pixels for Y seconds and a check box. The mounts can take a few moments to settle down after a slew or dither.

I set for my Atlas Pro to settle at <4 pixels for 10 seconds.

With my Celestron CGX-L I lowered it to <3 pixels for 10 seconds.

Depends on your mount you might have to make it a larger amount of pixels.

Make sure the check box it ticked.

One other thing to try is in PHD settings (In PHD itself) under the brain button ā€œAdvanced setupā€ Global tab Dither settings try tickng the ā€œRA onlyā€ check box.

My mount is a Mesu200. Which parameters do you think would fit the best?

Thanks so much!!

Nice mount, I would start with <4 for 10 seconds and see how it works out. If it still takes a long time to settle try a larger number for the pixel range. If it gets really high like say 8-10 there might be other issues.

I have my Mesu set to <0.3 for 15sā€¦ Always works fine.

Thanks Sara!! I will try this setting

The setting also depends on your guide camera image scale and the seeing.
You can set the ā€˜settle atā€™ to the similar value to the guiding RMS error in pixels or slightly larger than the guiding RMS error after guiding for a while (the RMS error can be found on the guiding graph window on PHD2).

I would look at what your PHD2 graph looks like and make the determination
for the size that you think looks ā€œgoodā€. Then look at it again and think
ā€œhow long should this look good for before I should take an imageā€. This
will vary depending on your setup and how you guide. For instance when
guiding with my OAG I typically settle at 0.5pixel. However when guiding
with my guide scope I typically settle at 0.2 pixel since it is a shorter
focal length. Both for about 8 seconds.

Thanks,
Jared
