RBI mode with SBIG STX 16803

How do you turn on the RBI mode with the SBIG camera?

What am I missing ?

Max

Anyone using RBI with SBIG STX 16803?
I can use RBI mode in SBIG software and MaxIM DL.

Thanks

Max

@maxm

Is RBI accessed via SBIG software or through an option in Maxim?

Both actually.
I can access it via SBIG’s software CCDOPPS and MaxIM DL.

Thanks

Max

@maxm

I guess I’m a little confused on this topic. With respect to SBIG cameras, they do not seem to have any hardware support that allows flooding the CCD prior to new exposures. In this case, most cameras attempt to flood the sensor with Near Infrared light in order to achieve the same effect. Do you know how CCDOPS handles this?

The STX 16803 has the IR RBI flash hardware.

The STXL 16000 also has it.
See here under features.

MaxIM you choose image type as Raw verses Raw + RBI in the program.

You can see the difference in the images when the RBI flash is on.
I had a FLI. It works the same.

Hmm… I don’t see mention of how to control it in their SDK docs. Maybe mine are out of date. I’ll check it out.

Thanks
Max

We have reached out to SBIG for updated dev docs (hopefully with new info on how to control the onboard flood hardware). We’ll let you know if we hear anything…

Thanks. I will be happy to test it anytime.

Max

Did you get the Docs from SBIG?

Max

Nope. No response.

I will get right on it. I know them well.

Thanks

Max

Excellent… anything that helps. Let us know if you hear anything.

Here you go. I hope this has the info. Tim Puckett is good contact there.

If not let me know and will look further.

Best regards

Tim

Looks to be what we need! Thanks! I had emailed Tim but maybe it slipped through the cracks.

Jared

Let me know when I can try it on the camera.

Max

Sure. The new SBIG driver definitely references RBI, but it is not entirely clear how to use it from the docs. I’ll reach out to Tim and do some digging. It’s possible that we are expected to just use normal camera routines to pre-flash and then throw that data away after it is read, but I don’t know for sure.

I have a feeling it is just on or off with the SBIG driver.
MaxIM you set mode to Raw or Raw with RBI. In SBIG CCDOPPS it is just off and on check box.

I had a FLI with a 18803 for a while . You could set flushs etc.

So I think you are correct, i.e. normal routines to preflash with this driver. The SBIG RBI down loads much faster than the FLI in RBI mode. It seams to work without the extra flushs.

Did they give you enough info yet?
