Serial Control of Nikon DSLR's

Hey!

I’ve tried the trial of SGP with my Canon T2i, and I liked it quite a bit. I’ve upgraded to an astro-modded Nikon D5100, which is much better (in my opinion).

Anyhow, with certain models of Nikon DSLR’s, bulb over USB is not supported. This has lead to products like DSUSB from shoestring that allow long exposures via the cameras remote shutter port.

This method provides a simple and easy way to use the D5100 and others for long exposure with BackyardNikon.

I know the DSUSB is supported by SGP, but the problem is that this cable costs $90. Using the method above, myself and others have made a cable that works for under $10.

Additionally, if you take a quick peek through that thread, you’ll find that on the computer side, this cable is extremely simple. It uses RTS and GND for the duration of each exposure.

What are the chances that a developer could implement this? I would be happy to assist in any way possible, as I have programming experience and firsthand experience with this cable.

Thanks!
