SGP Crapped out --Error code 54, "bad file name or number"

Everything was working great. but I had to restart my computer for unrelated issues. When I did so, I continued the sequence. SGP plate-solves, slews, and gets to the final centering procedure and literally craps out with the above message. I tried restarting the computer, restarting the telescope. But the night was over.

This is the corresponding log, but in the screen message it was Error code 54, “bad file name or number.”

I don’t know. That message did not come from SGPro… we don’e have a number based error system. Maybe it came from your solver?

These partial log snippets are often hard to interpret. It would be great if you actually used SGPs “Report a Problem” feature to zip up your entire log so everyone can try see what is actually happening.

Given the error message you posted (“bad file name or number”) are you sure that the PS2 files are availabe/accessible at whatever location you installed them?

On my system they were installed in the default location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Starry Ridge\APM

You can check where they are installed in your system by going to the Plate Solve tab in the Equipment Profile, clicking on the Settings button to open the PS2 settings dialog, then using the “File->Configure Catalog Directories” to see where your PS2 data is installed.

You should sanity check that those files are actually available.

And is this error now repeatable every time you try plate solve? Or was this a one-off problem you saw?

Thank you for responding. My platesolving has been working for months and there was not an issue. This error code just popped up. As stated I tried starting computer, telescope, etc. I have ensured the plate solve file are where they have always been and in the platesolve directory they both say “status ok.”

It is for sure. Probably from PS2.

I assume you didn’t actually switch to a different camera for the second sequence?

So either:

  • Your equipment profile for the second sequence is not configured properly (you can “apply” the equipment profile you are using in your first sequence to the second sequence to make sure they are the same),
  • Or SGP is somehow confused about which camera it should be using.

My bet is on the first (bad equipment profile being used), but who knows.

Which camera do you have selected as the main imaging camera in your second sequence?

For some reason SGP is sending the wrong camera resolution hints to PS2, and given your FOV/pixel scale is set for your other camera resolution, plat solving will fail.

I have ASI 1 as the same imaging camera selected as it has always been.

Steve, I think he just has the camera binned 2x2 so this should not be a problem since SGPro will scale things appropriately.

Having said that I don’t know what is casing his problem.

Yep, you’re right - he’s 2x2 binned in the second sequence. It does point to the fact that he is using a different profile in the failing case. No whether it was something in the profile settings or some other issue, it’s hard to tell.

@Ballyhoo - I’d still suggest “applying” your working profile to your second sequence and re-testing whether PS is working.
