Skytools 3 Import Feature

Respectfully request that you consider adding a feature to allow the import of .stx files generated by Skytools 3 . The .stx format has a strange header and footer that wrap the body of the exported plain text. If this proves to be difficult to manage, then a simple text import format that allows a simple text file to be imported would be lovely!

Here is a sample of the simple text format found in the body of the .stx file. Since I can manually clip out the header and footer of the .stx file, I would love to be able to import this simple table format:

                                                          M sin i Period Semimajor Eccen- K (m/s)

Moving to 2.5.2 feature requests.

If you are willing to do a bit of work with a spreadsheet you can convert the .stx data to a text file and import it via the Starry Nights option. All it takes in an object name, RA, and DEC in the correct columns of the spreadsheet.

Very very interesting. I will try that approach. If I import the stx file to Access, I can export direct to text with a query object. Perhaps that will work.

Is the delimiter a space, tab, or comma?

I used a tab. I’ve attached (I hope) a text file that you can use to import 24 Carbon Stars via the Starry Nights import. The first line are the SN’s field names.

Thank you for providing that file. Now I know exactly how to do the export from Access.
