Weather Apps

There are tons of weather apps. I run 3 on my iPhone to get a majority verdict on the random UK weather, including scope nights and clear outside. I discovered a new one that is not a dedicated astro weather app but has proved to be very useful. This app runs on iOS devices, including the iWatch. It is called Dark Sky - where I’m guessing ‘dark’ refers to ominous clouds. It appears to use satellite imagery and ground based observations to accurately predict precipitation.
Last night for instance, I was cloud dodging and managing to get a few short subs and my watch went ping, warning me of rain in the next 15 minutes. I finished a few subs, closed up the shop and sure enough, the pitter patter of raindrops shortly followed. If you don’t want to be staring at a screen, watching a cloud detector, having exception-based alerts is really useful.
Clear skies!
