What to use for "Restart current frame when guider distance >"?

Hello! I’ve run my first couple of sequences and am getting to know SGPro.

I am not clear on what to use for my auto-guider for "Restart current frame when guider distance >" in the equipment profile. What guidelines should I use to set this? Currently, I use an SBIG STi with a 100mm guide scope.

Thank you and best regards.

Mike

  • Decide how much movement you can tolerate in the main image. Let’s say, just for example’s sake, you decide “Up to 5 pixels is acceptable, more than that the frame is ruined.”

  • Using your main imaging scale, determine how much movement that is. Let’s say an imaging scale of 2.5"/px, so a 5px move would be 12.5". 12.5" is the maximum movement you can tolerate.

  • Divide 12.5" by your guider’s imaging scale. Let’s say it’s 5" / px. 2 pixels puts you at 10", 3 at 15". So, if the guider moves by 3 pixels, you’ve moved further than you’re willing to accept, and should restart the frame.

(These are obviously just made up numbers to illustrate the process. use your correct scales and desired allowable motion for your setup)

(Edit because upon re-reading I see I had said 5" not 12.5" in point 3)

Thank you!

Mike
