Sgp wont plate solve

Thanks for the imput, but the new, eq6r pro hand controllers now have a USB port already installed, you no longer need a serial port, I seem to have everything working now. Thanks shawn

HI Joel thanks for the reply, I checked to make sure I have all the catalogs downloaded and they come up as status ok, but ps2 won’t work although I am using astrometry.net ( local install) and I am having no problems at all, also I am nearing the end of my trial period, and plan on purchasing, at the end of trial when I open sgp will I get the option to purchase, then , or do I have to go to the website, and when I purchasee will all my settings and profiles stay the same? Thanks shawn

If you go to the help menu there should be an option in there to buy a license or register or something to that effect. Then head over to mainsequencesoftware.com and create an account. You’ll be able to manage your license “seats” (computers) there.

Hi Joel,

Plate solving using PS2 failed last evening with the logfile message: “PlateSolve 2 failed! No APM file found.” I did confirm when I looked at SGP’s PS2 settings that both APM and UCAC3 directories are selected and have a “Status: OK.” Thoughts? BTW: when I use PS2 outside of SGP, plate solve works for the same file.

Thanks.

Dennis

Hi Joel,

Forgot to include the following logfile sequence leading up to the problem I just reported.

Dennis,
I really don’t know what’s going on. It’s best to post a link to your full log file so that we can see what equipment you are using.

One thing I’m curious about, if you go to the control panel/plate solve tab (make sure platesolve2 is the chosen interface) and then click on Settings then click on View/Parameters what catalog is selected (APM or UCAC3)?

If APM is selected try choosing UCAC3 instead. I have no idea if this will make any difference (it probably won’t) but it’s worth a shot. Of course, you need to make sure you have previously downloaded the UCAC3 catalog and that PS2 knows where the folder location is.

I’ve seen a couple of references through this thread that sounds like you guys may have installed PS2 separately outside of SGP. It was stated above, but I will re-emphasize, PS2 is INCLUDED with SGP. Actually according to the help file, it is a custom version. The help file also states…

Note: You should not install the actual PlateSolve2 software. SGPro distributes its own version… downloading your own copy for use outside of SGPro is possible, but keep in mind it will have a separate configuration than the one SGPro uses.

So, I have to wonder. If you guys have done a separate install, even though it states it is possible, is that interfering with your setup within SGP? If it were me, I would uninstall the separate version and try again. You may even have to re-install SGP to fix what the other install may have changed.

hope this helps,

Stephen
