Column Defect Causing AF To Fail . .

My SBIG STL recently developed a full height column defect. In sparse star fields, the SGP AF routine is latching onto the hot column and treating it as a series of stars. As might be expected, this causes havoc!
As hot columns are common enough, I am puzzled I have not read of others having a problem too?
Any ideas as to how to prevent SGP from seeing the hot column?
Attached is an image of AF run from a recent night.

Hi Terry
I cannot find the attached image, but I have a column defect on my Atik 460 which is on the RH side of my sensor. I have overcome similar issues by cropping the auto focus frames , by in my case 20%. You can find the cropping feature through the auto focus set button.

Thank you, Steve. That should work nicely on the rather rare occurrences that the AF routine acts this way. It more often ignores the bad column, but in sparse fields, bad things happen.
Incidentally, this is an older post. Hence the missing attachment. Not sure what I did to “reactivate” it? But I did “not have permission” to delete it. That said, your reply is still appreciated and useful.
