It really shouldn’t be necessary, we have hundreds of USB devices connected to computers every day that boot up successfully with the computer. The original USB Lakeside focus module had startup issues. A firmware update solved it.
I solved my SX filterwheel problem by buying a QSI with a built-in wheel 
@Mitchell There is a fix for this in the latest firmware of the filter wheel. Learned this SX folks at last weekend’s NEAF. Waiting for system to boot up before plugging in the FW is not an option for remote operation.
I upgraded mine to 1042-AR. The AR apparently stands for Auto Reboot (if doesn’t detect connection). Working well so far.
