My internet in my observatory is fast, but SGP throws an error when asked to fetch an image using the Frame and Mosaic tool. The error window is just a box that states error and shows a red X.
I just installed a new observatory computer, and consequently needed to reinstall SGP along with everything else. When this error occurred, I tried uninstalling and starting over, but same result.
it seems like nasa’s skyview site is running really slow and sometimes not responding to those API queries. the web interface looks like it works normally but the method SGP is using is messed up.
Having the same issue tonight. Looked like it was a an issue on the NASA site based on the log file. Currently imaging a target I’m trying to finish and was setting a new one earlier and was having this issue so haven’t tried to get the image in the FMW again. Would be curious to know if this started working for the OP. I’ll try again tomorrow to see if it was the server that was the issue. Seems I wasn’t the only one having this issue.
well ok, what i am saying that is if you go to the URL that’s in the log in your web browser, it seems to hang. but if you go to the skyview site homepage and do a query by hand, it works. so i think it’s nasa’s problem based on Justin’s report, and just about the only thing Ken and Jared could do would be to find a backup server and launch a query there if the one they are using currently fails.
Experiencing the same problem both last night and again this morning. Getting error message after hitting the “fetch” button on the Frame and Mosiac tool
Same here FMW doesn’t fetch named stars that are not in my cache. Albireo ( all designations for the pair ), Sadr. Even tried Sh2-91 which is close to Albireo.
Hopefullyjust a server error somewhere and its up and running again soon.
Well seems to be a bigger problem that more than 2 of us are experiencing. Hopefully the devs can take a look and see what’s going on. Here is the excerpt from the log for the fetch.
Interesting if you copy and past the https://dkyview.gsfc.nasa link into a web browser it does come up with an image… For some reason SGP does not seem to be able to get or download the image and use it. There is an exception in the log so not sure what’s going on.
A possible workaround that I haven’t tried yet as I’m at work, and clearly more focused on this problem, lol. If you go to the log and navigate to the image via the web site in the log and save it locally like the desktop then use the FMW with the local image with rotation etc. that you’d like to use. Might be a stop gap until this can be resolved. I have not tired an astrobin image or a saved image to see if either of those will work. This seems to be an issue with fetching an image from the nasa DB more so than using an image.
Just a thought someone can try. I"ll try it when I get home to see if will work.
I’ve tried everything. I think it has to download an image from the NASA site even if you use an existing image or astrobin URL. I tried an image I collected using the FMW and still the error persists. Have not found a workaround for this. The NASA site is up and works for searches via the web so maybe a backend thing, but should be nonfunctional for everyone I would think if it’s the site.
Would be helpful to know how many folks are having this issue by trying to set up a new target. Is it everyone or just a subset of us. Please chime in if you are willing!
Would love to hear from the dev or moderators if this is being looked at. The program loses much of its utility without this feature working.
I am just new to SGP and I was playing with the framing and mosaic wizard and I am getting the errors in the log. I downloaded SGP about a week ago so it is a fresh install along with the latest ZWO and ASCM drivers
